Our Roots
Our roots run deep -- right into the heart of Texas. Casa de Vaca Ranch is situated in Coryell County Texas, just North of Lampasas and due East of the little metropolis of Evant. Settled by my great Grandparents, Emmitt and Minnie (Shoaf) Turner, the place is home to my folks, Longhorn cattle, a few beleaguered chickens, a feisty dachshund, some lamas and plenty of mud-daubers.
The Cowhouse winds it's way through the place curving lazily past live and Spanish Oaks, pecan groves and lumbering armadillos. Many of my best childhood memories swim with sounds of splashing in the creek, rock skipping, fishing and drifting on the slow moving waters of the Cowhouse.
We're delighted to bring you a piece of life along the Cowhouse from our pit: slow cooked ribs and briskets, smoked with cherry, oak, pecan, mesquite and other flavorful hardwoods. Delicious, tender chicken that makes you feel silly to ask for barbeque sauce.
